Make a cool science poster for the roomGo geode hunting in Kansas: Geodes. Geodes are crystal-lined cavities in rocks. They are formed by ground water that deposits minerals in solution on the walls of rock cavities. This type of deposition usually forms good crystals. The minerals deposited may vary, but in Kansas most geodes consist mostly of quartz,chalcedony, and calcite. They can be found in many places in the Flint Hills region: near the town of Rock, along the Walnut River in Cowley County; north of the town of Douglass in Butler County; and in Riley, Marshall, and Chase counties.Geodes in Dickinson County. A good place to find geodes is in a roadcut ¼ mile west of Chapman, on 4th Street. These geodes occur in theCresswell Limestone Member, which is part of the Winfield Limestone.

6th Grade Extra Credit
Newspaper articles covering Science topics may be brought in to class. The student must tell the science teacher about the article. Each article is worth 1 point with a maximum of 20 points per 9 weeks.
Reports (handwritten) over a topic being studied in science class at the time the report is written. (Discuss possible topics with the science teacher if you have questions.) 10 points are possible per report with a maximum of 2 reports per 9 weeks. Length of the report does not matter. We are interested in quality information. Length will take care of itself.
